About Counselling

What is counselling and how it can help

The NHS defines counselling as a:

"talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues."

What happens in counselling?

Counselling allows people to discuss their problems, issues and any difficult feelings they encounter in a safe, confidential environment with a trained professional. It is a process people seek when they want to change something in their lives, or simply explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth and better understand themselves and others.

What you talk about will vary depend on what you want help with.

It could include:

  • your feelings, emotions or thoughts
  • your relationships
  • your childhood
  • your behaviour
  • past and present life events
  • situations you find difficult

Support

It can be challenging or even impossible to talk to family and friends about what is going on for you. You may need support but feel they do not understand, or they give you unwanted advice. You may not want them to know or burden them with your issues.

A safe space

You can talk about whatever you want within the counselling session. Counselling offers you a safe space to talk confidentially to a professionally trained counsellor about what is troubling you.

What to expect:

Taking the first step into exploring counselling can be daunting and I would like to help if I can. Call me on 07522775695 or get in touch via my simple contact form.

From here, we can then arrange an introductory call, a time to speak, either over the phone or via Zoom. The initial contact should only take around ten to fifteen minutes.  It will give you the chance to ask questions about my approach to counselling.

We can explore any previous experience of talking therapies that you have had.  We’ll also look at what has brought you to consider counselling at this time.  I’ll then share some more information about the types of counselling that I offer, and you can decide the style that best suits you.

Most importantly, it provides you with the opportunity to see if you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor. There is no charge for this initial contact.

Our first session together:

Sessions last 50 minutes whether in person or online/telephone. During our first session, we will also discuss our “Counselling Agreement”.  This simply establishes the foundation of our relationship. It covers aspects such as confidentiality, session times and payment.

We will then agree a regular, scheduled day and time for our sessions.

At the end of our session, we will set out your expectations and goals for counselling.  This will give us a common platform for our work to begin.

Whether we are talking in the counselling room or online, it’s important to remember that how we use the session will be entirely led by you.

Fees & availability

Therapy sessions for individuals last 50 minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis, and cost £60 per session via bank transfer. I also provide a limited number of spaces for those on low-income or for students; contact me to enquire about availability.

Note that if you want to cancel an appointment I require 48 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payment by bank transfer.

Location:

Counselling Room

I offer face-to-face counselling, in a spacious, calm therapy room situated in Moss End Garden Village, in Warfield, Bracknell.

The therapy room has been designed with talking therapies in mind.  It provides a safe, confidential space for our sessions together.

Moss End Garden Village offers plenty of convenient parking.  It is also served by the No. 53 bus, which runs between Bracknell, Maidenhead and Wexham Park in Slough.

Online & Telephone Counselling:

More and more clients are accessing counselling from the comfort of their own home.  If you have somewhere safe and confidential, then this method may well suit you.  I offer counselling via the phone or over video, using Zoom.

This method offers flexibility, as it can take place anywhere in the UK, providing you have access to Wi-Fi or a phone.  Having the sanctuary of home, a comfortable sofa or armchair, your dog or cat next to you, a cup of tea, warm blanket and no public transport or driving. Online therapy is a haven in a world of over stimulation.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are held at an agreed time each week.
